1 TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE #1 119,251
OK< I didn't much care for the Transformers back in the 80's, and I had no idea it would be the Number One Comic Of The Month. I still remember being dragged to the Transformers movie in the theater, and when it was over turning to my friend and saying, "What the flaming blue hell did I just watch? I have no idea who anyone in the movie was." Then, as he explained it, I walked to the liquor store and started drinking and didn't stop until 1992.
2 NEW X-MEN #125 104,185
Still far better than it should be. Grant Morrison has taken a comic that was unreadable and made it a must read. If you haven't read the New X-Men for ANY reason, now is the time to jump on. The art is a little rough, but the story more than makes up for it. Highly recommended
3 ULTIMATES #4 103,153
And maybe by this issue they will start the story. What is it about the Ultimate line that they fell everything has to be dragged out for 6 - 7 issues?
4 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #40 (RES) 99,273
I'm sure I'd like this book if it ever came out.
5 ULTIMATE X-MEN #17 95,887
Again, bad, trendy art gets in the way of me liking the story.
6 UNCANNY X-MEN #405 93,909
Joe Casey will be leaving the book with #410, and I think that's a good thing. His run has been poor when compared with Grant Morrison's, making this the runt of the X-litter. I don't know if it's poor execution or just bad pacing, because the plots sound interesting when I hear about them, but when the comic itself comes out, I am utterly unengaged as a reader.
7 CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 90,567
So, for the Captain America revamp, they bring in a British writer. I see they are also going to tie in BIG with the WTC attack, and prolly make Cap a terrorist fighter. Might be a good idea, since he was a comic character who was created to fight Nazis in the pages of WWII comics before we were at war with Germany. I'm giving it a try, at least.
8 ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #21 84,485
Here I was all worried that Bendis had too much going in the current story arc, and it would all turn out to be a big mess...and he surprises me by not just tying it all up in one issue, but doing it in a entertaining, non-forced way. Highly Recommended.
9 WOLVERINE #175 (Note Price) 75,528 10 GI JOE #5 72,527 11 X-TREME X-MEN #12 71,855
OK, I haven't read the last 3 issues due to being too busy lately do to more than sleep and wash my underwear. So I sat down to read this as if I was a new reader. Not a damn clue what was going on. But you already knew that, didn't you?
12 GREEN ARROW #14 70,639
This won't be out this month, trust me. #13 came out just a little bit ago, and was OK, not great. Still, nice to have Ollie back, and I'll be interested to see how the next writer does with him.
13 JLA #65 61,929
Is it wrong to say that I just don't care about this book any more?
14 AVENGERS #53 53,828
The problem I am having with the current story is that it is TOO big. Washington DC has been destroyed, most of the Earth's population are Kang's slaves, and no other Marvel comic is even touching on it. I would think that the destruction of an entire city would be an event so big you couldn't escape it, and I doubt Marvel's other books will deal with it. Still, if you take that away, the last page of the comic is GREAT.
15 SPIDER-MAN PETER PARKER #42 48,773
The Doc Ock three parter was a low point for Jenkin's work on Spider-Man, so I am hoping that this issue is a return to form, where he deals with Peter Parker, and each issue reads like a story instead of part of a on-going soap opera.
16 WOLVERINE HULK #3 48,760
Sam Keith, making the pocket change. I'll buy the collected trade.
17 SPIDER-MAN PETER PARKER #43 48,473
And it's bi-weekly to try and scoop up some money from the upcoming movie.
18 DETECTIVE COMICS #769 48,459
I think this is the first time I can ever recall Detective outselling Batman, other than anniversary issues. And it should. Rucka is a great writer who has made this book a must read, even when tying into big stories. His last few issues should be a treat, and hopefully the next writer will be able to keep the book as enjoyable. Highly Recommened.
19 DAREDEVIL #32 47,576
OK, the last issue was supposed to be a "big shock". It wasn't. Good solid story, but not a big shock. Don't hype it if you aren't going to make my jaw drop, OK? Highly Recommended anyway.
20 X-FACTOR #1 (Of 4) 46,768 21 MARVEL MANGAVERSE #1 46,575
Spinning out of the "event" that is currently available in a trade paperback, which I am reading currently. It was as fun idea, but do we really need yet another Marvel Reality to follow? This makes 4 currently being published, and prolly confuses the hell out of folks. Remember how DC said Earth - 1 and Earth - 2 confused everyone?
22 SPIDER-MAN MOVIE ADAPTATION 45,189
I don't need to read movie adaptations. I prefer to just go to the movie.
23 PUNISHER #11 44,956
The current story is a typical Punisher story, issing all of the odd, over-the-top humor and such that Garth Ennis was able to inject into the character. Maybe it would be a good idea just do mini-series when he's got a story instead of trying to do a regular series and fill in around his stuff.
24 BATMAN #602 44,853
Part of the "Bruce Wayne, Fugitive" story, and this big event doesn't seem to hang together very well. Not because it's a bad idea, but because each issue isn't moving the story forward. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't list it on the cover as part of a bigger story, when I just can't see the bigger story.
25 FANTASTIC FOUR #54 (Note Price) 44,808
A 100 page monster, and Highly Recommended. Not for the new story but because it reprints FF Annual #6 and FF #176, two GREAT stories, and the printing is so much better than the originals that you can make out detail that either Kirby or Perez put in the story that the shitty paper couldn't get when they were printed.
26 INCREDIBLE HULK #39 44,517
I am actually reading this series on www.marvel.com, and it IS very good. The trade paperback on Bruce Jones's beginning of his run on the books should be out in a couple of months, and I'll be getting that.
27 NIGHTWING #68 43,068
Another part of "Bruce Wayne, Fugitive" because they mention Bruce Wayne, I guess. Still, a solid, mildly entertaining book by Chuck Dixon.
28 SPAWN #121 42,938 29 BATGIRL #27 42,785 30 BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHTS #28 42,655
This book is a mixed bag. Sometimes it's the best Batman book of the month and sometimes it's just a waste of paper. Sadly, there's no way to tell until it comes out, and this issue isn't out yet. So give it the flip test in the shelf before you buy it.
31 FATHOM #15 42,135 32 X-FORCE #127 42,014
I was told by the clerk at the comic shop that she didn't like this series, and I was blown away. This is about the only comic reviewed by the New York Times, and they raved over it. And they were right. Allred's art is a joy to see, and the stories by Milligan are deeper and more interesting than they appear at first glance. Maybe this isn't a book for comics fans, but it IS a book for people who want to read Great Stories. Highly Recommended.
33 JSA #35 41,399
DC's best super-hero book because it is able to have characters with a rich history without making it a history lesson, instead concentrating on telling interesting stories. Highly Recommended
34 HAWKMAN #2 41,354
I never gave a damn about Hawkman, but this book (like JSA) is well done, well-written and gives a sense of character. Highly recommended.
35 GI JOE BATTLE FILES #1 (Of 3) 40,457
36 X-MEN UNLIMITED #35 39,897
In a dream world, this would be a book where creators can come and try to do their best X-Men stories. I have read the editor talk about that being what he wants to do, but too often, this book is rushed out with three or four half assed stories. Maybe this issue will be better.
37 ULTIMATE MARVEL TEAM-UP #15 39,071
Spider-Man and the Ultimate Master of Kung Fu...MOKF has always been a character I like, and most people who take on the character do well by it, and this was no exception. Rick Mays did GREAT manga-style artwork, and the story was enough fo a tease that I want MORE. Highly recommended even if you haven't ever read Master of Kung Fu.
38 PARADISE X #2 38,928
The last of the "X" mini-series from Marvel that is utterly unreadable to people who aren't hard core Marvel comics fans.
39 EXILES #12 38,766
A VERY well done issue, and while it can be a bit confusing to people who aren't big X-Men fans, the creative team does a good job in introducing the characters you need to know, and setting up a dilemma that will make for a good story overall. Mildly recommended.
40 SUPERMAN #181 37,883
41 IRON MAN #53 37,636
42 IRON MAN #54 37,407
Mike Grell surprised me when he took over this book. For the past 20 years he has stayed away from actual super-heroes, even turning Green Arrow into just a guy who's good with a bow instead of having any sort of super-powers. His Iron Man stories are the boost this book needed and makes it Highly Recommended, even if the art is too cluttered to tell the story as well as it could.
43 STAR WARS EP II ATTACK O/T CLONES #1 (Of 4)* 37,403
44 BLACK WIDOW PALE LITTLE SPIDER #1 (MR) 36,596
Greg Rucka doing another Marvel mini-series. Trade paperbacks anyone?
45 STAR WARS EP II ATTACK O/T CLONES #2 (Of 4)* 36,187
46 THOR #48 36,021
In reading some old Thor comics from the 60's, I was amazed at how this book was fun of so much fun and slam-bang action, and now the book just looks slow, leaden and dull. Want Thor to sell? Turn it into an action book again instead of bogging it down with all the extra crap.
47 GREEN LANTERN #149 35,290
48 ELEKTRA #10 34,936
49 MARVEL KNIGHTS DOUBLE SHOT #1 (RES) 34,748
A surprisingly well-done comic. Garth Ennis does an experimental Punisher story that is one of his better works, the rest fo the comic is well-done as well. Buy it, even though it is an anthology comic because it's Highly Recommended
50 MIDNIGHT NATION #11 (RES) 34,671
51 MORLOCKS #1 (Of 4) 34,115
Hasn't Marvel killed off these characters. More than once?
52 ACTION COMICS #790 34,008
53 ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #603 33,546
54 ALIAS #8 (MR) 33,214
For everyone who dismissed this book as "Marvel doing sex scenes", you don't deserve a comic this good anyway. The currently story, dealing with the price fo fame as it relates to super-hero supporting cast members, is Bendis's best story right now, and is Highly Recommended.
55 SUPERMAN MAN OF STEEL #125 32,240
56 CATWOMAN #6 31,895
The creative team on Catwoman continues to shine, giving it the "crime comic" look instead of the "big Hooter" book it used to be. Highly Recommended.
57 ROBIN #101 29,841
First issue under the new team, so it might be worth checking out.
58 TOMB RAIDER #21 29,711
59 BATMAN LEGENDS O/T DARK KNIGHT #154 29,450
A story by Mike Baron, who wrote Nexus and Badger so long ago...a talent who did some great work and some bland stuff. But he does know how to plot a good story, so even if the story isn't GREAT, it will be worth reading.
60 STARTLING STORIES MEGALOMANIACAL SPIDER-MAN 29,316
I wanted this to be better than it was...Peter Bagge's work on HATE was one of the high points of comics in the 90's, but this was just kind of...there. If he would have subverted his story more and gone for a traditional story it could have been good, or if he would have gone all out and ripped into super-heroes the way he does in his interviews it would have been good as well. This was in-between and felt a bit tepid. For Bagge fans only.
61 ORDER #3 29,217
62 THUNDERBOLTS #63 29,042
Does anyone still pat attention to this book? Anyone?
63 MUTIES #3 28,971
Looks like the endless X-Men mini-series spin-offs aren't doing what they thought they would. Unless they thought they would lay on the shelf like a dead wombat.
64 BLADE #2 (MR) 28,562 65 CABLE #104 28,316
66 MARVEL KNIGHTS VOL 2 #2 28,186
67 TRANSFORMERS PX PREVIEW BOOK #1 28,159
68 SPIDER-MAN TANGLED WEB #13 27,755
Another good, solid story. I won't ever understand why comics with creators doing self-contained stories never seem to sell. Highly Recommended.
69 DEADLINE #1 (Of 4) 27,656
70 POWERS #20 (MR) 27,333
I remember when this book storted, it sold in the low 15,000+ copies and got a lot of buzz. It's nice that it is doing so well now, even if it has lost a step. The current story doesn't feel as good and the past ones because it'snot so much an investigative story but one where the main characters are just watching things happen around the, Still recommended, though.
71 FLASH #185 27,320
72 WONDER WOMAN #180 26,903
73 WITCHBLADE #55 26,880
74 YOUNG JUSTICE #44 26,840
The next part of a crossover story. Let's hope it doesn't suck as hard as the Joker one did.
75 STAR WARS JANGO FETT OPEN SEASONS #1 (Of 4) 26,701
76 DEADPOOL #66 26,652
A book I am buying out of habit. It's not GREAT like it used to be, but it's not so bad I throw it away in disgust. Hopefully the new creative team can capture that psycho, off-the-wall humor the first three years of the comic had soon.
77 JIST W/SCOTT MCDANIEL CREATING AQUAMAN 26,396
78 BIRDS OF PREY #42 26,360
79 AVENGERS CELESTIAL QUEST #8 26,212
Steve Englehart tying up loose ends from his 70's and 80's work at Marvel. Only for the long term Marvel fans, and the art isn't all that great, and feels rushed.
80 AVENGERS ICONS TIGRA #2 25,503
81 HOWARD THE DUCK #4 (MR) 25,194
I just read over the Essential that reprints all of Gerber's work on the character in the 70's and the bo0ok was SO far ahead of its time back then. This mini-series is something I am buying when it comes out in a trade paperback.
82 LEGION #7 25,113
OK, I have finally been won over by thids relaunch. I don't LOVE the Legion like I used to, but it is a solid, well-done comic wing interesting stories. And they let us know that they didn't kill XS, who is prolly my favorite Legion character.
83 JUST A PILGRIM GARDEN OF EDEN #2 (Of 4) 24,485
84 LAB RATS #1 24,037
This is supposed to be John Byrne's big new comic...why does it feel like a fill-in story from the mid-80's? I used to devour the stuff Byrne did, but it seem now that he is just hacking it out without wanting to tell a decent story. It's kind of sad really.
85 TOMB RAIDER JOURNEYS #4 (Of 12) 24,005
86 SPIDER-GIRL #46 23,781
87 TITANS #40 23,615
88 SOJOURN #10 23,485
89 HIGH ROADS #1 (Of 6) 23,153
90 OUT THERE #10 22,727
I LOVED Crimson, but this series by the same creative team just hasn't hooked me. Sorry.
91 HARLEY QUINN #19 22,588
The art by the Dodson's should sell better than this, let alone the fun stories by Karl Kesel. The fact that it sells this poorly makes me think that this books will slowly fade out like other good DC books like Orion, The Crusades and Deadman. Still, it's highly recommended.
92 CAPTAIN MARVEL #31 22,332
I'm sure if you know comics at all, you know about the big "sales battle" coming up. If Peter David Wants to win, he should quit trying to tie this book into comics and stories that ended 5 years ago. No one gives a damn abotu Rick Jones's mother, Spider-Man 2099 and all the other stuff you've been cramming in here later, PAD.
93 POWER COMPANY #3 21,884
After 3 issues, I can safely say that Kurt Busiek should have concentrated on The Avengers instead of pitching this as his next big book.
94 RUSE #7 21,287
95 TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE CHROME CVR #1 21,014
96 STAR WARS #41 DEVARONIAN VERSION (2 Of 2) 20,489
The new movie seems to have spiked sales. How mad will the people be who bought this book hoping to see ANY character you have heard of?
97 MUTANT X DANGEROUS DISCOVERIES #1 20,377
A tie-in to Marvels' new TV series based on...well, nothing Marvel has ever done. Has anyone seen this show? Is it as painfully bad as it sounds?
98 PATH #2 19,946
99 BASTARD SAMURAI #1 19,888
100 BLACK PANTHER #43 19,883
Marvel is pushing this book as well, but Priest's work has always been painfully hard for me to read, and the art is damn bad. At the risk of pissing people off, maybe this book shoudl be cancelled instead of having to be "rescued" every 3 months.
101 TASKMASTER #3 (Of 4) 19,861
102 SUPERBOY #99 19,681
The Young Justice tie in for this month must have worked a bit, as this is the best sales this comic has had in a long time. Too bad it was too late to save it from being cancelled.
103 PROMETHEA #20 19,323
An amazingly deep, thoughtful and intelligent comic series that prolly goes over the heads of 99% of the public. Highly Recommended.
104 ATHENA INC #1 19,314
105 SUPERGIRL #69 19,246
106 SPECTRE #16 19,112
That's a big sales drop...this was around #70 until the last couple of months, which means it won't be around too long. To bad, as it is one of the most thoughtful comic series being published and is Highly Recommended to people who want a bit more than two guys fighting in their "DC Universe" comics.
107 DOOM PATROL #7 19,098
108 BATMAN DEATHBLOW AFTER FIRE #2 (Of 3) 18,847
109 HELLBLAZER #173 (MR) 18,596
The current creative team's last story hits the sixth part. It's a good story, but not a Hellblazer story. Hopefully the next team will remember than JC is a Shaman Mage and not a character in Law and Order.
110 JUSTICE LEAGUE ADVENTURES #6 18,417
111 IMPULSE #85 18,282
112 WARLANDS #1/2 18,107
113 X-MEN EVOLUTION #6 17,407
114 TRANSMETROPOLITAN #55 (MR) 17,322
I know, I used to tout this book as one of the best beign pubished, and then the pace slowed to about as fast as the "bullet time" in Max Payne. Maybe it works better as books, but I think Ellis is stretching out a 40 issue story to 60.
115 SPYBOY YOUNG JUSTICE #3 (Of 3) 17,161
116 SUPERMAN & SAVAGE DRAGON CHICAGO 17,102
Need any more proof that people don't care about intercompany crossovers?
117 100 BULLETS #35 (MR) 17,102
118 SCION #23 16,950
119 BTVS #44 DEATH OF BUFFY (2 Of 3)* 16,371
120 UNIVERSE #7 16,304 121
GEN 13 #76 16,210
I guess the sales didn't go up, so now they will relaunch it with a new #1 and a new creative team. Hopefully SOME editor read it and realized that Adam Warren is an amazingly talented writer and was doing good work here. Highly Recommended, even if you always hated Gen13, since the stories are amazingly good.
122 SUICIDE SQUAD #8 16,039
Cancelled with issue #12. I don't think many people will miss it.
123 LUCIFER #25 (MR) 15,914
124 CRUX #13 15,147
125 MYSTIC #23 14,994
126 LADY DEATH CHASTITY BAD KITTY UNITED #1 14,981
I'll only buy this if it's published by Eron comics.
127 CITIZEN V & BATTALLION EVERLASTING #3 14,900
I don't think there will be another Citizen V mini-series from Marvel with sales THIS bad.
128 HAVEN BROKEN CITY #5 (Of 9) 14,824
DC started this one with a big JLA crossover, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Just for my part, I am a bit sick of "Aliens have to make their way on Earth when human distrust them" stories...yeah I know, there have only been a few of them. However, the whole "fish out of water" thing has worn thin on me.
129 NEGATION #5 14,819
130 IT GIRL ONE SHOT 14,640
131 BANISHED KNIGHTS #3 14,429
132 CROSSGEN CHRONICLES #7 14,398
133 FIRST #18 14,384
134 SIGIL #23 14,322
135 MERIDIAN #23 13,985
Looks to me like the CrossGen books have all stablized as low sellers, no matter who they put on them. I give the company another two years unless they have a plan to get their comics for sale outside comic shops.
136 SIMPSONS COMICS #69 13,963
Do I need to recommend this book every month? OK, highly recommened.
137 LADY DEATH GAUNTLET #2 (Of 4) 13,837
138 DEADMAN #5 13,689
I like this book, the character of Deadman has always been one of my favorites, and the storyline is interesting, but moves a bit slow. Still, with sales this low, I shouldn't get too attached to it.
139 AZRAEL AGENT O/T BAT #89 13,442
Done with issue #100, which means if anyone other than Denny O'Neil were doing it, it would be cancelled now.
140 HUNTER AGE OF MAGIC #10 (MR) 13,079
141 CODENAME KNOCKOUT #12 (MR) 12,545
142 SAVAGE DRAGON #98 12,456
In this issue, Erik Larson "parodies" Neil Gaiman, calling him a hack who rips off other people's creations. Erik, my friend, this is the kettle. It wants to know why you are calling it black.
143 KINDRED #4 (Of 4) 12,249
144 VAMPIRELLA #8 REG ED 12,245
145 SANDMAN PRESENTS THESSALIAD #4 (Of 4) (MR) 12, 197
146 SUPERMAN ADVENTURES #49 12,142
147 STRANGERS IN PARADISE 12,227
146 BATMAN GOTHAM VOL III #12,143
147 DEFIANCE #2 11,926
149 ESTABLISHMENT #8 11,922
49 MOLLY & POO 11,867
150 ORION #25 (Note Price) 11,846
Last issue. Damn you people for not buying it. Walt Simonson is one of the better creators working in comics, and this book was a GREAT showcase for his talent. Highly Recommended.
151 MIDNIGHT MASS #1 (Of 8) (MR) 11,778
By the writer of Xombie, one of the best horror/weird comics of the 90's. I held off because Vertigo has been pretty dissapointing the past couple of years. But DC is pushing it pretty hard, so I expect it to be collected in a trade eventually.
152 VAMPI #18 REG ED 11,630
153 AMERICAN CENTURY #14 (MR) 11,276
This book keeps chugging along, and is still fun and entertaining, but should be read in "story chunks", so wait until a story is done and read it all at once.
154 PURGATORI GOD HUNTER #2 (Of 2) 11,177
155 CHASTITY CRAZYTOWN #2 (Of 3) 10,567
Sadly, I no longer need to buy this for the person who was at one point, my best friend in the whole world. Makes me a bit sad to see it on the shelf, but oh well.
156 SCORPION KING #2 (Of 2)* 10,307
157 SCI SPY #3 (Of 6) 10,195
A series by Moench and Gulacy, who did great work on a number of projects together. Sadly, I have decided not to waste money on mini-serieswhen I'd rather read the trade collection of it, so let's hope it sells well enough to be collected.
158 RADIX #3 9,904
159 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #3 9,787
160 POWERPUFF GIRLS #26 9,033
161 GREYSHIRT INDIGO SUNSET #5 (Of 6) 8,742
162 CRUSADES #14 (MR) 8,657
And the sales keep falling. I wonder how long until DC pulls the plug on this? I see on the covers now they say how long each story will be...I don't know if that will help sales, but it's a shame this well done comic is selling so poorly. And I can't fault DC on it since they did do a good job of hyping it when it first came out.
163 TEKKEN FOREVER #3 (Of 4) 8,482
164 OH MY GODDESS PART XI #9 MYSTERY CHILD (7 Of 8) 8,127
165 UNTOLD TALES OF EVIL ERNIE RELENTLESS #1 (MR) 7,854
So...this book was brought back by popular demand? Was that SAM Popular who works in the mailroom at Chaos?
166 KNIGHTS OF THE DINNER TABLE #66 7,185
A fun highly recommended comic for Gamers. Funny and about 64 pages for $3. If you have ever played and RPG, but this.
167 BLADE O/T IMMORTAL #67 BEASTS (2 Of 7) (MR) 7,109
168 STRAY BULLETS #25 (MR) 7,060

170 10TH MUSE #11 6,809
171 CEREBUS #277 6,688
For a comic that most everyone I have talked tyo buys are trade paperbacks now, these are good sales. And just 23 issues left until Cerebus is done.

182 RANMA 1/2 PART 11 #2 (Of 11) 5,521
183 SUPER MANGA BLAST #21 (MR) 5,472
With Pulp being cancelled in about three months, this has become the best Manga anthology. Of course, it's a small field, but this is a great buy for people who want to see what Japanese comics are like with every story in the book worth reading. Highly recommended.

I dislike this book, even though I know Knights of the Dinner Table. Why? This is a serious version of the "adventures" the players run. It just doesn't work.

This is a reprint of This on-line comic strip. It's well done enough, and it usually has an original story. It's OK, but not great...but I'd rather it were in my newspaper than Fred Basset.
