Still thinking about things
I'm getting amazed at how well the conservatives do their job of making their opponants look like evil monsters. The lastest thing making the right wing rounds is the contention that "Liberals are sad that Zarqawi is dead." I'm as liberal as they come, and I think it's a good thing that we've taken out a bastard who targets innocent civilians. Anyone who deliberately goes after civilians in a war is the lowest form of life an needs to be removed from the battlefield by any means necessary.
However, I'm REALLY disturbed by how we put dead enemies on display in Iraq. We trotted out the corpses of Hussein's sons, and we did it with Zarqawi, and it seems barbaric to me. Isn't the US supposed to be the "good guys" in this fight? It's against the Geneva Convention, and does nothing more than give the enemy more to use against us.
I don't know how much of it I agree with, but I am reading over this editorial and finding myself agreeing with it more than not. He's right in that this is going to be sold to us as yet another "turning point" when it's pretty clear that Al Qaeda in Iraq is like the mythical Hydra...cut off a limb and two more will take it's place.
